He seeks a measure of relief from the tensions of daily life as a head by writing a journal outlining some of the triumphs and tribulations of life at Cranberry. He enjoys the support of Bobo, his devoted wife. His colleagues, a mix of inexperienced beginners and jaded veterans of the classroom, are supportive but do frequently offer strongly held opinions of their own. Life in the Staff Common Room is generally good natured, but the life of the Head is not infrequently interrupted by Matron causing him almost constant problems. Public events can also be very trying- Sports Days, Speech Days, particularly when the general public has access to the school premises. JPs personal journal of shrewdly observed incidents unveils both the humour and idiosyncratic nature of life within his fictional world. Set in the 1980s it reveals the inner battle to align his own traditional (and outdated) thoughts and values with modern life.
