In her eagerness to break out, and against her parents heated objections, she enters into a hasty marriage with a sailor who is soon to be discharged. Shortly thereafter, the consequences of this hasty decision begin to unfold and show how a fairytale marriage can turn into a nightmare.Disappointments begin when her husband is unable to find a job after discharge and wants to move back to his hometown in Pittsburgh. With a new baby daughter and after many a bitter fight, Phyllis, who loves L.A. and wants desperately to live close to her family, reluctantly agrees to try it his way. The many hardships and disappointments she experiences in Pittsburgh as enhanced and related to the reader by her inner thoughts and feelings will keep the reader transfixed and eager to read the next story/chapter.
